Gulliver’s is a family-run business and as a result the founder and Chairman Mr Gabe Harding, who established the business over 55 years ago, still takes a very active role in the day-to-day running. Three generations now work within the business as Gabe is supported by his sons and grandson, Philippe Harding the Managing Director, Nic Harding a Director and Oli Harding, Bristol’s Depot Manager.

The business was created when Gabe - who comes from a family of renowned butchers - had his own butchers shop based in Bedminster, Bristol. When one of his largest customers mentioned they were off on holiday and wouldn’t require their order the following week, Gabe questioned where they were going and then how they would get there. It transpired the customer was renting a car and having heard the price, Gabe thought to himself, “I could do that”.

Over the weekend Gabe’s family car was sold, two Ford Anglia were purchased and an additional phone line was installed to take calls for his new car hire business.  Rental prices started at just 17 shillings and 6 pence for an evening hire and £1 and 15 shillings for the day.

Gulliver’s has gone from strength to strength over the past 55 years, developing to specialise in the hire of both general and municipal vehicles and now has a nationwide fleet of 6,000 and a product range of over 80 various vehicle types and sizes.
